Dr. Sandesh Nilakanth Raaje’s musical path brings together family tradition, long-term discipleship, performance, academic study, teaching, recognition and a commitment to carrying knowledge forward.

The Beginning

A musical inheritance

The story begins within a family enriched by a longstanding tradition of Tabla and Pakhawaj. Rhythm was not something distant; it was part of the musical environment that shaped the earliest years.

Under Pt. Bhai Gaitonde

His foundation deepened through long-term discipleship under legendary tabla maestro Pt. Bhai Gaitonde. Nearly three decades of Guru–Shishya association shaped not only technique, but discipline, aesthetics, musical values and responsibility toward the tradition.

Narayan Sangeet Sadhana Pratishthan

Together with colleagues and well-wishers, Narayan Sangeet Sadhana Pratishthan was formed to promote Indian classical music and create a platform for musical activity and cultural engagement.

Professor, accompanist & examiner

Dr. Raaje worked with Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal in Vashi, Navi Mumbai as Tabla Professor, Tabla Accompanist and Examiner — extending his musical role into education and evaluation.

Sangeet Alankar

Formal training was strengthened through Sangeet Alankar from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, combining practical musicianship with structured classical study.

Broadcast Recognition The music reaches a wider audience.

2007

All India Radio — B-High Grade

Recognition as a B-High Grade artist by All India Radio marked an important professional milestone and opened the route toward broadcast recital and a wider listening audience.

2009

Master of Performing Arts

Dr. Raaje completed his M.P.A. in Music (Tabla) from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, strengthening the academic study of rhythm alongside an active performance practice.

The journey has also included the Rashtriya Gaurav Award and an Honorary Doctorate in Music and Performing Arts, reflecting recognition of his continuing contribution to music.

Narayan Sangeet Sadhana Pratishthan evolved into Sandesh Raaje Institute, continuing its commitment to Hindustani classical music while creating a foundation for future musical and cultural initiatives.
